Riola, Martha  (28 SEP 1939-23 FEB 2011)

 

Martha (Monegar) Riola, 71, Minneapolis, Minn., formerly of Willard, went to be with her Saviour Jesus on Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011, surrounded by her loving family, in Blaine, Minn. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., on Sunday, March 6, at Park River Estates Healthcare Center Chapel, Coon Rapids, Minn.

 

Martha Monegar was born on Sept. 28, 1939, in LaGrange, and grew up in the town of Mead. An ordained chaplain, she was a beautiful loving wife, mother, grandmother and faithful Christian servant, remembered by all she touched. She served as a hospice chaplain at Hospice of the Twin Cities, as a nursing home volunteer chaplain at Park River Estates Care Center, and as a hospital chaplain at Regions Hospital. She earned degrees in theology culminating with a master’s of theology. She received her hospice training at St. Christopher’s Hospice, London, England, under Dame Cecily Saunders, the founder of hospice, and at Trinity Hospice, London. She was honored as a "reader" with the Bodleian Library, Oxford University, and was the recipient of the Humanitarian Medal and served on the Ho-Chunk Nation Aging Board. She is remembered as a prayer warrior, and faithful minister of the Word. She loved her family, Jesus and he country, the United States of America. She and her husband, Peter, traveled throughout the world "for the love of learning." She is a role model for all who seek the truth in Christ Jesus, and for all who seek to know Him.

 

Survivors include her husband, Peter Riola, Minneapolis; one son, Peter (Anne) Riola Jr.; a daughter, Mari, (Bill); three grandchildren, Andrew, Samuel and Julia; a sister, Mona (David) and their children, Isabella and Scarlett; a brother, Sidney and his daughter, Maurine; a niece, Kim (Frank) and their children, Tiffany, Cody and Destiny; a nephew, Paul (Lori) and their children Victoria and Alexander; a nephew, Alan Lee Monegar, and two brothers-in-law, Dick (Bev) and Bill (Carolee)

 

Preceding her in death were an infant son, Mario; her parents, Tillie, Clarence and Emma; a sister, Marsha; and two brothers, Clarence and John.
