Miller, Raymond (9 JUN 1909 - 2 MAY 1948)

 

Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, May 6, at 2:00 o’clock for Raymond Edward Miller, age 48, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Greenwood.  He passed away in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield at 5:50 p.m. on May 2, 1958 after an eight month illness.

 

The Rev. I.J. Tanner officiated and burial was made in Riverside Cemetery.  "Nearer My God to Thee" and "Rock of Ages" were sung by Mrs. Ken Phillips, piano accompaniment by Mrs. Don Warner.  Pallbearers were James Boylan, John Ericksmoen, Frances Conrad, Adolph Wendt, Vaino Talso and Chris Ellie.  The flower girls were Mrs. James Boylan, Mrs. John Ericksmoen, Mrs. Frances Conrad, Mrs. Adolph Wendt and Mrs. Vaino Talso.

 

Raymond Edward Miller, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Edward Miller, was born on June 9, 1909, in the town of Longwood (Clark Co., Wis.).  On April 21, 1936 he was united in marriage to Ellen Mertens Vetterkind by the Rev. E. Wendling in the parsonage of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Withee.  They were blessed with two children, Duane, who is now aged 12, and Lucille, who preceded her father in death in infancy.  He shared his home with a step-daughter, Bonnie (Mrs. Max Stoskopf, West Allis), and after his father’s death, with his two youngest brothers.

 

Raymond hauled milk to the Withee Co-op Creamery and to the White House Condensary at Abbotsford for many years, besides general trucking.  After his marriage he also engaged in farming in the town of Longwood, and in the later years was employed part time by the Will Implement company of Owen.

 

He was baptized and confirmed at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church at Longwood by the Rev. A.E. Norson.

 

Raymond leaves to mourn his death, his beloved wife, son, step-daughter and the following brothers and sisters: Jean (Mrs. Justine Stapel) of Oakdale, Calif.; Louis and Ralph of Withee, Roy of Owen, Marie (Mrs. James Hanley) of Stanley, Eve (Mrs. Carl Hakes) of Holcombe, Edna (Mrs. Donald Schelvan) of Milwaukee, Earl of Withee, and Loren of Owen.  His father, mother and a baby sister preceded him in death.  Other numerous relatives and a host of friends also mourn his death.

 

Among those from away who attended the funeral were Mr. Howard Farwell and niece, Miss Bernice Farwell, of Saginaw, Mich., Orin Miller of Thorp, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Mertens of West Allis, Mrs. Winnie Minckler of Sheboygan, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Spafford, Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Spafford, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Spafford, and Mr. and Mrs. Roland Fawley, all of Rhinelander, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Schelvan  of Milwaukee, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hakes and daughter of Holcombe, Mr. and Mrs. James hanley and daughters of Stanley, Mr. and Mrs. August Mertens of Stanley, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Swenson of Woodville, Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Stewart and Mrs. William Nourse of Thorp.
