Irene Staab completed her life’s journey Tuesday, January 18, 2011, at the Golden Living Center, Abbotsford, where she was a resident of the Alzheimer’s Care Unit since 2005.

Irene was born March 21, 1921, in Marshfield to John and Mary (Zenner) Wechorek. After graduation from Marshfield High School in 1940, she worked in the medical records department of Saint Joseph’s Hospital. Irene began her 55 years of married life with Bernard on June 29, 1949, moving into the new Dorchester home that he had built for them and where they lived until late 2003 with Bernard passing away on December 26, 2004.

Irene was a devoted wife, mother of their four children and grandmother to 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She was the bookkeeper for Bernard’s business, Staab’s Manufacturing. They enjoyed traveling, researching their family’s history and playing cards. Irene’s hobbies included sewing, crocheting afghans and tending her flower garden.

She was an active member of Saint Louis Catholic Church, Dorchester, having held offices in the Altar Society and the Women’s Catholic Order of Foresters. She also participated in the Lioness and American Legionnaires activities.

Irene is lovingly survived by her children, Karleen Berg of Neenah and her children, Matthew (Jennifer) Berg and Kristine (Anthony) Giornalista; Mary Ann (Gary) Will of Colby and their children, Denise (Andy) Peissig, Joann, Kevin (Jody) Will and Roxann (Tim) Ebert and their grandchildren, Autumn, Addison, Ella and Kylie Peissig and Keltie and Kinsley Will; John (Carol) Staab of Dorchester and their children, Michael and Ethan Staab, and Jane (Richard) Bahr of Neenah and their children, Brad and Devinne Bahr; and a brother, Harold "Bud" (Lillian) Wechorek of Marshfield.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bernard; and a son-in-law, Thomas Berg.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday, January 22 at Saint Louis Catholic Church in Dorchester with Father S. Nathan and Father Dan Hackel concelebrating.
