Withee, Wisconsin (2 November 1961)

 

A sewing class for adults will be held each Wednesday evening for the next seven weeks at the Withee Home Economics room in the Junior High School. All interested are invited.

 

The Withee Lions sponsored a Halloween party for the Withee kids Tuesday night at the Withee Junior High School.  On the committee were Myron Fritsch, chairman; Leon (Swede) Bruchert, Louis Burhop, Norman Kell and Emil A. Hansen.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Brossow have received word of an accident to a five year old nephew of Mr. Brossow in Seward, Alaska, last week.  No details were available; but the boy, one of five children of Mr. Brossow’s brother Fred, died from burns received a week ago Monday.

 

Withee now has a fire truck housed in the fire hall for the first time. The truck was formerly housed at Owen.  It was replaced there by one from government surplus stock.  Members of a group to be alerted in case of fire calls are: Clinton Albert, George Sorensen and Norbert Bruchert.

 

The P. T. A. meeting was held at the Frenchtown School Friday night.  A short program was presented in which the children took part. There was a free-for-all cakewalk to raise money. Vernon Miller, Mr. Nerdrum and Joe Allwoitz were on the entertainment committee.

 

Mrs. O. V. Ammentorp has received the news of an accident which took the life of a nephew, Lee Allen Larsen, 23, at Sussex.  When driving along a highway at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 17, his car missed a curve.  He was instantly killed.

 

Mrs. Ammentorp attended the funeral the following Friday.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Ed Baum, Rt. 1, has received word of the death of Mrs. Ernestine Hake of Colby.  Mrs. Hake was 91.  They attended the funeral Saturday.

 

A farmer in the Frenchtown area found a yearling heifer in the pasture that had apparently been mauled by a bear. Deep scratches on the animal’s shoulder had become infected and required a veterinarian’s care.  It is now being kept in the barn and its wounds are dressed daily.

 

The Grey ladies of Withee and Owen went to Tomah last Thursday for a district meeting at the Veterans Mental Hospital there.  Members from this vicinity who went are: Mrs. Gladys Weaver, Mrs. Dorothy Rabska, Mrs. Anna Sorensen, Mrs. Caroline Ammentorp, Mrs. Minnie Weddig, Mrs. Adelle Gretchner, Mrs. Norah Mariel, Mrs. Theresa Novak and their leader, Mrs. Clara Frost.

 

Otto Petke and daughter, Sudan, and son Philip, of Waterloo visited his sister, Mrs. Julius Rohland, Rt. 2 Withee, last weekend.

 

Mrs. Jeanette Anderson accompanied Rev. and Mrs. Cecil Ward to Sparta Tuesday, where they visited Rev. Ward’s sister.

 

The Withee MYF was invited to a Halloween party by the Greenwood MYF in the Greenwood Methodist Church, last Saturday evening.  It was a costume party.  The leaders for the Withee young people are William Turner, Mrs. Harris Johnson and Mrs. Russel Martinson.

 

The Withee Girl Scouts had a scavenger hunt last Thursday night.

 

The Nazareth Lutheran guild of Withee church will sponsor a Turkey dinner at the Nazareth Lutheran Hall tonight (Thursday) from 5 to 8 p.m.  The public in invited to attend.
