Thorson, Gordon (Buys IGA Store - 1958)
In less than a week’s time Gordon Thorson will close the doors on his former grocery store and meat market, located to the west of the Owen Enterprise building, and Monday morning will open the doors of Thorson’s IGA Store.
Monday he purchased the inventory and fixtures from Greg Wittman, former owner, and leased the building from Arne Larson, formerly of Owen.
Wittman has been in Owen since May 1, 1957, and will leave here, moving to Florida.
Gordon Thorson has been associated with the grocery and meat business for the past 19 years. For the past 10 years he has owned and operated his own store, and of late years he and his wife have built up a large volume of traffic utilizing current day merchandising methods, along with specializing in the cutting of fresh meat and smoking their own meats.
September 1st they expect to move their household effects above the IGA Store, as the larger living quarters will enable them to have his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Al Thorson, Sr., Make their home with them.
