Quist, Charles (9 NOV 1868 - 17 JUL 1958)

Funeral services were held Sunday at 1:00 o’clock at the Hoeper and Kraut Funeral Parlors for Charles Quist, 89, who died Thursday evening, July 17, 1958, at his home.  The Rev. James Stone officiated and burial took place in Lake View Cemetery at Turtle Lake.

Mr. Quist was born in Smoland, Sweden, Nov. 9, 1868.  He came to this country at the age of 13, making his home at Red Wing, Minn.  When a young man he entered the Army and was stationed at Fort Assiniboine, Mont.

On June 23, 1892 he married Christina Johnson.  They made their home in St. Paul, Minn., where he was a motorman on the street car line from 1890 to 1895.  From there they moved to Almena, where they farmed until 1920.  He assisted in building the first roads in Almena township, serving many years as town chairman and school board official.  In 1920 they purchased a farm at Colby, residing there until 1944 where he retired and moved to Owen.

Survivors are one son, Earl Quist, Duluth, Minn.; three daughters, Mrs. Geroge (Gertrude) Kowalk, Colby; Mrs. Otto (Mabel) Kowalk and Mrs. Fred (Gladys) Baumgart, both of Owen; two grandchildren, Duane Baumgart, Marshfield, and Betty Kowalk, Milwaukee.

His wife preceded him in death on Feb. 23, 1957, and six children also preceded him in death.
