Henning, Earnest George (11 December 1874 - 4 November 1961)
Funeral services were held Monday from the Zion American Lutheran Church in the Town of Pine Valley for Ernest George Henning, 86, Rt. 3, Neillsville, who died Saturday in an Eau Claire hospital. The Rev. Evan Dieck officiated. Burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.
Mr. Henning was born December 11, 1874, in Marquette County, and was the son of the late Ernest and Minnie (Kruger) Henning. He received his education in the schools in that County and for 21 years worked for the Soo Line Railroad.
On December 2, 1898, he was married to the former Mary Boy in Newton. In 1916, they came to Clark County and located on a farm in the Christie area. Four years later they moved onto their present farm in the Town of Weston. Following his retirement they moved to Neillsville for three years, and after the death of his wife Mr. Henning returned to the farm and made his home with his son and daughter in law, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Henning. He was highway patrolman for the Town of Weston for 20 years.
He was a member of the Zion American Lutheran Church in Pine Valley.
Survivors are six children: Arthur, Libertyville, Ill.; Mrs. Walter (Anna) Freid, Neillsville; Mrs. John (Ella) Kallas, Eau Claire; Alfred, Montesano, Wash.; Mrs. Emma Jensen, Racine; and Herbert, Neillsville. Twelve grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Georgas Funeral home. Pallbearers were: Art Dux, Andrew Turczyn, Alvin Meihack, Thone Karnitz, Elmer Adams and Earl Marden.
"The Old Rugged Cross" and "Losz Mech Gehn" were sung by Wilfred Galstad, accompanied by Mrs. Kenneth Karnitz.
People from out of town here for the services were: Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Henning and children, Libertyville, Ill.; Mrs. Emma Jensen, Racine; Mr. and Mrs. John Kallas, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Bylander, Mrs. Elmer Raether, Miss Julia Henning, Mrs. Doris Orth, Mrs. Helen Schreiber, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Henning, Mrs. Laura Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Ewald Henning and Edward Kier, Eau Claire; Mr. and Mrs. Stan Guberud, Mrs. Francis Schaeffer and four children, Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Krueger, Evelyn Kohnke, Gust Gilgann, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Katzur, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Wegner, Mr. and Mrs. Louie Zellmer, all of Westfield.
