Montgomery, Robert J. (July 11, 1949 - March 24, 2011)
Robert J. Montgomery, age 61, of Colby, passed away with loved ones by his side, Thursday, March 24, 2011 at Ministry St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield.
A celebration of life will be held 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, April 2,
2011, at Amber’s Colby Café in Colby.
Robert was born July 11, 1949, to Lenard and Lorraine (Richards)
Montgomery in Crandon. He graduated from Crandon High School and
went on to proudly serve his country in the Army.
Robert was wounded in Vietnam and received the Purple Heart, Vietnam Service Medal, and National Defense Service Medal. He was joined in marriage to his wife Debra (Viets) on June 26, 1981. Robert drove school bus in the Colby and Medford area for 18 years.
Robert enjoyed the outdoors; hunting, fishing, and camping,
pitching horseshoes and shooting pool. He enjoyed animals and
tending to his garden, but most of all he enjoyed spending time
with family and friends.
He is lovingly survived by his wife, Debra, of Colby; his children,
Samuel (Montgomery) Koppela of Wausau, Michael (Angela) Montgomery
of Wausau, and Meriah (Denis Williams) Montgomery of Colby; his
grandchildren, Samantha, Heather, and Alex Pupp, Aiyanna
Montgomery, Mallory Montgomery, and Jonathan and Jaxson Koppela;
and his great-granddaughter, Lydia Pupp.
Robert is further survived by his brothers and sisters, David Montgomery of Evart, Mich., Pete Montgomery of Houston, TX, Cindy (William) Richardson of Pahrump, Nev., Timothy Montgomery of El Paso, TX, Sandy Drummond of El Paso, TX and Bill (Janeen) Montgomery of Hobart, Okla.; his sister-in-law, Helen Montgomery of Washington, Mich.; and his mother-in-law, Mildred Viets of Colby.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Clayton
Montgomery.
