Martin, Esther S. (21 MAY 1924 - 8 APR 2011)
Esther S. Martin, 86, of Thorp passed away Friday, April 8, 2011,
at the home of her son in the town of Longwood.
Her funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at
MeadowBrook Mennonite Church, Thorp. Bishop Elvin Fox will
officiate. Visitation will be Monday, April 11, 2011, from 3 p.m.
to 6 p.m. at the home of her daughter, Allen and Eva Horning,
N15071 Sterling Ave., Thorp. Burial will be in the MeadowBrook
Mennonite Cemetery in the town of Withee.
Pallbearers will be Jesse Martin Jr., Jason Martin, Menno Shirk,
Delton Martin, Marcus Martin and Earl Ray Brubaker.
Esther was born May 21, 1924, in Churchtown, Penn., to Samuel and
Elizabeth (Sauder) Nolt. She married John S. Martin Jr. on Oct. 24,
1946, in Lancaster County, Penn.
She and her husband farmed in Lancaster County until 1975. They
then moved to a farm in the town of Hixon, where they operated a
harness shop, did saw sharpening, raised veal calves and sold farm
produce.
Esther was a member of the Old Order Mennonite Church, Thorp.
Esther is survived by two sons, Rufus (Anna Weaver) Martin of
Withee and Alvin (Vera Hoover) Martin of Withee; nine daughters,
Naomi (Noah Earl) Hoover of Thorp, Eva (Allen) Horning of Thorp,
Alma (Elam) Shirk of Curtiss, Emma (Raymond) Brubaker of Denver,
Penn., Elizabeth Martin of Thorp, Rebecca (Nelson) Martin of
Withee, Barbara (Mahlon) Shirk of Owen, Mary (Jesse) Brubaker of
Withee and Mabel (Robert) Kleine of Waupaca; son-in-law Jesse (late
Laura) Martin Sr. of Withee; 84 grandchildren and 119
great-grandchildren. She is further survived by siblings Lydia Ann
Hurst of Penn Yan, N.Y., Martha (Aaron) Martin of Narvon, Penn.,
Mary Martin of Ephrata, Penn. and Samuel (Lena) Nolt of Fleetwood,
Penn.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John S. Martin Jr.; two
daughters, Laura and Miriam; and siblings Ammon Nolt, Ivan Nolt,
Isaac Nolt and Elizabeth Nolt.
The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Owen is assisting the family
with funeral arrangements.
