Greenwood (14 December 1961)

Mrs. Henry Goettsch was dismissed Tuesday from the hospital. She underwent surgery.

Mrs. Mary Danielson, Mrs. Dave Danielson, the Rev. and Mrs. Arvid Myhrwold and family and his mother, attended a birthday party in honor of Mrs. Gunda Sorenson at her home in Longwood.

Lewis Kaudy arrived from Minneapolis Friday to spend some time before returning to the Veterans Hospital, where he had been a patient since September 24.  Saturday afternoon and evening visitors at the Kaudy home were Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Metcalf and Mr. And Mrs. Leon Metcalf of Neillsville, and Vincent Sennott and daughters of Milwaukee.

Mr. and Mrs. M. C. Thompson visited Wednesday evening at the home of his sister, Mrs. Robert Stewart.

Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Elmer were Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Gray of Loyal, Mrs. Jake Speich and daughter, Violet, and Mr. and Mrs. John Seibold.

Mrs. Gary Rohde of Colby and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Stewart, Mrs. Donald Decker and Mrs. Glenn Stewart spent Sunday with their daughter and sister, Mrs. Esper Jepsen, who is a patient at Memorial Hospital in Appleton. They also visited at the Arthur Jepsen home there.

Mr. and Mrs. Howard Luniak and daughters of Appleton were Sunday guests of Harlan Brux and family.

Mr. and Mrs. Jack Corey returned to Huron, S. D., Saturday after spending a week with his mother, Mrs. Lee Corey, and in Neillsville with his brother, Gary Corey and family.

Greenwood Grades 1 - 8 and Greenwood High School will hold their Christmas program Monday evening.  More than 200 students will take part in an operetta, "The Christmas Wish", to be presented by the grade school. The high school chorus will sing Christmas carols. The public is invited.

Approximately 50 members and guests attended a Christmas party last Thursday afternoon in the Zion United Church.  A prayer and thought for the month were given by Mrs. Orval Egbert.  The Rev. Orval Egbert opened the meeting with scripture reading. Following the business meeting a program was presented with Mrs. Arnold Beyer in charge.  Readings were given by Mrs. George Hoehne, who gave, "Annie and Willie’s Prayer," "The Christmas Cat" by Mrs. Lee Corey; "It is Christmas Once More" by Mrs. Egbert; and Mrs. Beyer gave the reading, "Dollars and Cents."

Games were played, with Mrs. Hugh Severson, Mrs. Christ Keiner and Miss Louise Keiner in charge.

The group sang a number of Christmas songs accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Egbert. The program closed with a prayer by the Reb. Egbert.

Cash donations were received for a Christmas gift to the Fort Wayne Orphanage in Indiana. A "silent auction" was held and a potluck lunch was served.
