Schultz, William A. (15 MAR 1882 - 28 AUG 1958)
William Adolph Schultz, son of the late Mathilda and Gustav Schultz, was born on March 15, 1882 in the town of Mayville, Clark County. His parents moved that year to Little Black, Taylor County, where he attended the Liberty School. At the age of 16 he left for the north woods and was employed as a cook for the Rib Lake Lumber Co. and continued at this work until his marriage on May 10, 1908 to Ida Strassburger at the Curtiss Reformed Church. The couple then moved to their farm home in Hoard (Clark Co., Wis.) where they lived until his death.
He entered St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield on Aug. 1 and passed away on Aug. 28, 1958 of a cerebral hemorrhage which followed two successful operations.
He is survived by three brothers, Otto of Chicago, Ill., Paul of Curtiss and Frank of Brookings, S.D.; six sisters, Mrs. Anna Tonn of Curtiss, Miss Martha Schultz of Abbotsford, Mrs. Hattie Elftman, Miss Bertha and Gertrude Schultz of Milwaukee, Mrs. Amanda Virch of Peshtigo. Mrs. Schultz passed away in March 1958, and a son, Wallace, died in infancy.
Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon, Sept. 1, from the Evangelical Lutheran Church. Burial was made at Pine Hill Cemetery.
The Rev. Max E. Wilhelm officiated. Mrs. Opal Peissig and Mrs. Art Laabs, accompanied by Mrs. Max Wilhelm sang "Nearer My god to Thee," "Jesus Savior Pilot Me" and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus." Three brothers and one sister, Mrs. John Meschepke, preceded him in death.
Pallbearers were Alfred M. Erickson, Walter Nicks, Joe Ackerman, Gilbert Burtard, Ed Hoffman and Eino Walkema. In charge of floral tributes were Mrs. A.M. Erickson, Mrs. Joe Ackerman, Mrs. Walter Nicks, Mrs. Eino Walkema, Mrs. Ed Hoffman, Mrs. Carl Wachsmuth and Mrs. Vilas Luscher. All his sisters and brothers and their families were present. Relatives attending were John Meschefske Sr., Mrs. Raymond Fredrickson, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Lekeis of Medford; Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Storch and Mr. and Mrs. John Meschefske Jr. of Stetsonville; Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Kuegler, Mrs. Bertha Kuegler of Dorchester; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Schultz, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Schultz, Mr. and Mrs. Art Jenson, Mr. and Mrs. John Strassburger of rural Curtiss; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Vollrath and Mrs. William Schwarze of Greenwood; Mr. and Mrs. Lee Jensen of Owen; Rhinehart Klocke, Mrs. Larry Nelson, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Fritsche of route 1, Curtiss. Friends attending were Mrs. John Rau, Mrs. Anna Wilke, Mrs. Norman Pickett, Mr. and Mrs. John Boxrucker and Joel Winchell of Dorchester; Emil Laabs and Otto Brown of Colby, and many other friends and neighbors.
