Hansen, Pres. William C. (Retiring - 1962)
Pres. William C. Hansen of Wisconsin State College in Stevens Point is retiring this spring from an experience as teacher and school administrator which included service in Neillsville and started in September 1911.
Born July 4, 1891, in Neenah, he came with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hans Christian Hansen, to Withee in April, 1894. The family settled on a farm near the village. William completed 11 grades in Withee in 1911, attended Stevens Point College 1909-1911; taught in Menomonee Falls 1911-13; attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1915.
He taught in St. Croix Falls High School 1915-17 and served as principal of Milltown High School from 1917-22. In 1922 he came to Neillsville, where he served as principal and later superintendent of schools for seven years. in 1929 he moved to Oconto where he spent three years as superintendent of schools. From 1932 to 1940 he served as superintendent of schools in Stoughton and December 1, 1940 was elevated to the position of president of State Teachers College, now Wisconsin State College.
While in Neillsville the Hansen family resided on Oak Street in the residence now occupied by Prin. Gerald Sauer and his family.
