Grottke, Henry Edward (18 January 1930 - 29 March 2011)
Henry Edward Grottke passed into the presence of our loving Savior at home March 29, 2011, at 5:30 p.m. at the age of 81 years, two months, 11 days.
He was born Jan. 18, 1930, at home to Henry C. and Clara E. (nee Reich) Grottke. He attended Pine Circle country school in Fremont Township for eight years and Marshfield High School, graduating in 1948. He was a member of the National Honor Society.
He was a lifelong member of Christ Lutheran church - Missouri Synod, Chili. He was baptized in March 1930 and confirmed in the Christian Faith August 1943. He held church officers of elder, secretary and financial secretary over the years.
He married Margaret L. Holzberger at Bethesda Lutheran Church, Hot Springs, S. D. Aug. 5, 1967. They continued the family dairy farm until ill health brought retirement in 1985. Henry began work in 1988 with Labors for Christ, a construction organization of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod. He worked on 12 projects in 11 years: Rush City, MN; Concordia College, St. Paul, MN; Mattoon, Vesper, Hewitt, Tomah, Rice Lake, Appleton, Burlington, Rib Mountain; Hot Springs, S.D.; and Davenport, IA. He found great satisfaction and fulfillment working for his Lord in the company of fellow Christians.
Henry is survived by his wife Margaret of Chili; two sons: Stephen of Chili and Christian (Kara) of Eau Claire; one sister, Laura Sandstrom of Rice lake; two granddaughters, Megan and Lila Grottke; two step grandchildren, Kellie and Jacob Talledge; one step-great-grandson, Hunter; nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his parents and one sister, Wanda Garbisch.
Funeral services were held at Christ Lutheran Chruch, W5740 Maple St. Chili, Monday, April 4, at 11 a.m. Visitation was Sunday, April 3, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Buchanan Funeral Home, Neillsville, and one hour prior to service at the church. Rev. Jerome Freimuth officiated. Interment was at Zion LCMS Cemetery, Granton. Pallbearers were: Eric, Ben and Joel Garbisch, Jacob Talledge, Shane Sprecher and Stephen Grottke.
Buchanan Funeral Home of Neillsville assisted the family.
