Stark, H.J. (Barn/House Fire - 25 DEC 1943)
Christmas night, Dec 25th, 1943 was an evening that will long be remembered by the H.J. Stark family, for the barn and house on the C.E. Southworth farm, which they had occupied for the past six years, was tatally destroyed by fire of unknown origin. The farm is located on County Trunk D, two miles north of Owen. The Stark family had left home early on Christmas Day to visit with Mr. Stark’s brother, Louis, and with Mrs. stark’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Darth. They returned home about six o’clock to do the necessary farm work for the evening, planning to return to the Darth home for the evening. About 6:30 Mr. Stark went to the barn to feed the bull, and upon opening the barn door found its interior to be ablaze. Then sparks from the barn ignited the roof of the house and the efforts of the firemen and neighbors failed in saving either of the two buildings.
