Bowen, Ethel #2 (3 AUG 1893 - 2 JAN 1959)

 

Funeral services were held in the Evangelical Lutheran Church at Curtiss at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday for Mrs. Ethel Naomi Bowen, 65, of Curtiss (Clark Co., Wis.), who died of a heart attack while visiting in Honeybrook, Pa., with her daughter, Mrs. James Moore, Friday.  The Rev. James Stone officiated and burial was made in Pine Hill Cemetery.

 

The former Ethel Smith was born Aug. 3, 1893 in Grant County.  She was educated in the Grant school system, and in 1911 she married Harlow Bowen, who preceded her in death in 1940.  She lived in southwester Wisconsin until 1919, then moved to Clark County, where she resided on a farm outside of Curtiss until the death of her husband.  At that time she moved into the village.

 

She is survived by three sons, Floyd D. Bowen, Owen; Lester J. Bowen, Curtiss; Robert O. Bowen, Milwaukee; two daughters, Mrs. James (Velma) Moore, Honeybrook, Pa.; Mrs. Frank (Loretta) Leck, Vanderbilt, Pa.; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Hiram Smith, Modesto, Calif.; James Smith, Loyal; five sisters, Mrs. Fred Plath, Mason City, Iowa; Mrs. Mae Beerkircher, Mineral Point; Mrs. Ina Trelor, Milwaukee; Mrs. Ray Adams, Modesto, Calif., and Mrs. Elge Moore, Mason City, Iowa.

 

Two sons and one brother preceded her in death.

 

Pallbearers were Frank Hiebsch, Harry Kopp, Albert Phillips, Arthur Stadler, Ernest Mowery and C.E. Beck.

 

In charge of the flowers were Mrs. A.J. Hennlich, Mrs. A.G. Lien, Mrs. Floyd Buchanan and Mrs. Betty Marcott.

 

Relatives and friends from away attending the rites were Mrs. James Moore, Honeybrook, Pa.; Mrs. Frank Leck, Vanderbilt, Pa.; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bowen of Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. John Beerkircher, Mrs. Marion Engleke and Mrs. Hope Cenete of Mineral Point; Mrs. Lila Rothman of Mount Horeb; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Plath and Mr. and Mrs. Elge Moore of Mason City, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Nice of Fennimore; Clara Moore and Perry Moore of Almina, and Mrs. Rosetta Dunlap of Des Moines.
