Kaminski, John (6 APR 1895 - 23 FEB 1959)
A requiem mass was said this morning at 10 o’clock at St. Mary’s Czestochowa Church, northwest of Thorp for John Kaminski, 63, with the Rev. Edward Masalewicz officiating. Interment was made in the parish cemetery.
Kaminski, a resident of Owen (Clark Co., Wis.) since 1950, passed away Monday morning at St. Joseph’s Hospital shortly after undergoing surgery. Surgery was performed on a hip injury suffered when his car struck passenger Train No. 3 of Soo Line railway on the crossing near the O&N Lumber Co., in the city of Owen at 7:40 a.m., Monday, Feb. 16th. He was enroute to his employment at the Frederick Post Mfg. Corp. at the time of the accident. He had been hospitalized ever since the mishap.
Mr. Kaminski was born in Budapest, Hungary, April 6, 1895. He came to America with his parents at the age of four, and settled on a farm in Thorp Township, in the area known as Junction.
On July 13, 1918, while in the service, he married Madeline Ignasiak in a ceremony performed at Neillsville. After World War I the couple moved to Milwaukee where they resided until 1950 when they came to Owen and purchased what was then the Hi-Way Hotel, now known as the Havenet Nursing Home. They operated the hotel until Mrs. Kaminski’s death in 1954. Soon thereafter he sold the business and since that time has been employed by the Post firm.
His sudden passing is mourned by one son, Hebert of Milwaukee; a daughter, Mrs. Joseph (Gertrude) Korpal of Green Bay; one brother, Peter of Cleveland, Ohio; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Grundberg, Chicago, Ill.; and Mrs. Ethel Synder of Hollywood, Calif., and 10 grandchildren.
