Township of Spencer

Dr. Sauerherins of Wausau, was here on business, Monday last.

The Soldiers reunion, which was held at Spencer last week, attracted a large per cent, of our people.

Miss Lucy Deitle of Marshfield was here Sunday a guest of, well we promised George we would'nt tell.

Messrs W. A. Spencer and Chas. Lieble of McMillan was here on business during the fore part of the week.

Celia Butters returned home from Wausau Saturday where she has been attending teachers institute and examination.

Last Thursday evening our young people tripped the light fantastic toe at Spencer, and a delightful trip is reported.

Mrs. Zimiri Moon and daughter, Bernace, who have been absent on a pleasant trip to Moon the past three weeks, returned Monday.

Miss Eva and Harry Gamers of the town of Beaver, were over Sunday, guests at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Aug. Schwantes.

The Lutheran picnic held here Sunday last, attracted a number of our people. There was much music a social good time and a palatable refreshments served.

Threshing is the order of the day and favorable weather is making it prosperous. Crops are reported, to have yield excellently.

The quantity of grain is far above the average, and the quality well with that of the previous year. One argument more that this is a farming country.

Spencer City

E. Whitemore made a trip to Fond du Lac on Friday last.

A. B. Barney was transacting business in Wausau last week.

Miss Roth of Colby was entertained by Miss Linda Wendell last week.

Mrs. Wm. Andrews did shopping in Marshfield Tuesday between trains.

Miss Effie Williams made a trip to Colby on Friday morning returning in the afternoon.

Mr. Sherwod Blaizer visited Monday and Tuesday with his uncle and family, J. K. Hayward.

The Misses Buckmiller and Andress of Marshfield, were guests of Miss Pearl Farrington last week.

John F. Lamont, our good natured school superintendent, was in town Friday afternoon on official business.

Mrs. S. E. Brooks returned home Tuesday after spending several weeks visiting in the southern part of the state.

The Misses Mary Trumbull and Harriet Hayward were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Holsait's in the town of Fremont on Sunday.

W, F. Roecker was a Spencer caller Wednesday. Mr. Roecker has been engaged to teach in the Plymouth high school the coming year.

The ball game between Spencer and Loyal Sunday was not as closely contested as thought would be, Loyal being defeated by a score of 13 to 3.

Miss Martha Potts came down from St. Paul where she has been visiting her mother and brothers all summer. Miss Potts will teach the Romeo school this year.

The ball game on Thursday last between the home nine and the high school team of Marshfield ended in a defeat for the H. S. boys the score standing 10 to 18.  Rublinger of Colby did the pitching for Spencer.

The Misses Delap and Olson of Abbotsford visited on Friday with the Misses Ada and Dona Blaisdell. The young ladies came to take in the reunion but were a little too late.

The Hon. Neal Brown of Wausau, stopped off here Thursday afternoon on his way home from Unity, where he has been in the interest of the incorporation of that place.  Mr. Brown gave a speech in the M. W. A. Hall. Not many knew of the program at that time and consequently a goodly crowd was at the ball grounds watching the game that would have been at the hall had they known it.

The opening of the public school which was to have been Sept. 5, has been postponed until the 12th, on account of the principal not being engaged yet. The following is a list of teachers from this village and places where they will teach the following year: Harriet Hayward, infant room," Spencer; Ida Ponett, Prin., Spencer; Martha Potts, Romeo, Spencer; Jennie Parrett, Parrett school; Donnn BIaisdell, Brighton school; Lena Ehlers, Town of Hull; Ella Blankenburg, Manville; Zelma Blankenburg, Town of McMillan; Maude Damon, Greenwood; Effie Williams, New District.

Little Lyle Holmes, two years old, wandered from his mother's side Thursday afternoon and when found was toddling down the south road and had gone a considerable distance when picked up by someone coming to town. He was asked where he was going and the little fellow replied, "to the woods to find the bears." Its an unusual incident, for most children fear, even that name "bears" and "woods" as some mothers use them as a reminder of a punishment to the little ones when naughty. Little Lyle is noted for his mischievous ways, having at one time put the eggs to bed because he thought they were cold and he wanted to warm them.
