Niemi, Walfred #2 (20 DEC 1906 - 24 FEB 1959)
Military services were held at two o’clock Saturday afternoon from the Hoeper and Kraut Funeral Home. The Rev. J.J. Tanner officiated with burial being made at Riverside Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were William Niemi, Ted Piekola, Edwin Behrens, Herb Missling, Adolph Wendt and Sherman Gosse.
Niemi was taken ill on the 17th of February at his home in Chicago and was admitted to the Veterans Hospital where he passed away Tuesday, Feb. 24, 1959.
The son of Mr. and Mrs. John Niemi, he was born Dec. 20, 1866 in Waukegan, Ill. At the age of five he came to this community with his parents, settling on a farm at Longwood where he attended school and grew to manhood. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in Europe with the 3rd Armored Division. For the past 12 years he was employed as a meat cutter at the Palmer House in Chicago.
On May 27, 1947 he was united in Marriage to Claire Klein of Chicago, who mourns his death, as does his father; two sisters, Mrs. Ervin (Lillian) Rossow of Greenwood; one brother, Jack of Owen, and numerous other relatives and friends.
