Rigg, Clarence J. #2 (18 MAY 1884 - 18 FEB 1959)
Final rites for Clarence J. Rigg were held Monday, Feb. 23, with services conducted from the Hoeper & Kraut Funeral Home. The Rev. Cecil Ward, Pastor of the Methodist Church, Withee, officiated with interment at the Riverside Cemetery.
Pallbearers were: Norbert Bruchert, Donald Poppe, Frank Gay, Chris Peterson, Ben Wing and Harry Thorson. Floral arrangements were by Doreen Poppe, Margie Cizik, Mae Bruchert, Tyrni Veurink, and Mrs. Frank Gay. Vocal selections were rendered by Mrs. Russell Martinson, with Mrs. Herman Rabska serving as accompanist at the organ.
Death came to Clarence on Wednesday, Feb. 18, 1959, at the Phoenix General Hospital, Phoenix, Ariz, where he was being treated for a heart condition.
The deceased was born May 18, 1884 at Wellsville, Kansas. On Oct. 3, 1906, he was united in marriage to Myrtle D. Fitzhugh in Loami, Ill. They made their home in Waverly Ill. until 1909 when they moved to the vicinity of Withee (Clark Co., Wis.). His wife, Myrtle, preceded him in death in July 1940. Since 1949 Clarence has resided in Phoenix, Ariz., usually returning to Wisconsin to spend the summer months.
Surviving are two sons, Wayne, Minneapolis, Minn., and Vernon, Hawthorne, Calif.; three daughters, Mrs. Dayton Lamont (Bernice), Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. Lawrence Meyer (Florence), Hawthorne, Calif., and Mrs. Albert Elsen (Jessie), Baraboo; 13 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild; one brother, Clifford, Mesa, Ariz.; two sisters, Mrs. Carl Johnson (Frances), Mellen, and Mrs. Frank Griffin (Grace), West Concord, Minn.; one cousin, Miss Ida Johnson, Minneapolis, Minn., who was raised by his parents as one of the children since her birth.
One son, T/Sgt. Robert W. Rigg, was killed in action March 22, 1944.
Relatives attending the funeral were Mrs. Dayton Lamont, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Rigg, Mr. Vernon Rigg, Mrs. Lawrence Meyer, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Elsen, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Johnson and daughter, Verna Johnson, Mrs. Frank Griffen, Miss Ida Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Griffin of Austin, Minn., Mr. Charles Griffin of Minneapolis, Minn. and Mr. Frank Fitzhugh of Auburn, Ill.
Friends from out of town attending were Mr. and Mrs. Lester Meyer, Appleton; Mr. and Mrs. Elmer St. Claire and Mrs. Paul Ohru, Wausau; Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Wing, Abbotsford; Mrs. Edna Gissi, Minneapolis, Minn.; Mr. Fred Dishel and Mr. Ralph Maier, Chippewa Falls, and Mrs. O.L. Brenden, Eau Claire.
