A Requiem Mass was said at St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church at Thorp last Thursday morning for Anton Vrkljan, Withee. The Rev. Francis Piekarski officiated and burial was made in the parish cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers were Fred Amacher, Arthur Smasl, Emil Malnar, Steve Pacewicz, Hugo Wolters, and Walter Zawadski.
The deceased was born Nov. 18, 1886 at St. Rok, Yugoslavia, and had attained the age of 72 years when he passed away April 21, 1959 at the Havenet Nursing Home, Owen (Clark Co., Wis.), where he was being treated for a lingering illness.
On Nov. 12, 1924, he was united in marriage to Mary Flipon in a ceremony performed at Neillsville. The couple lived near Withee where they successfully farmed for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Mary’ one sister, Mary Pastuovic, whose home is in Yugoslavia; a brother, John Worklan of Bloomingdale, Ohio; a son, Rudolph of Withee, and two daughters, Mrs. Cor. (Josephine) Linders, St. Paul, Minn.; and Frances Vrkljan, also of St. Paul.
