Lynch, Frank (tax assessment - Jan 1914)

 

Last week Frank Lynch paid his taxes and following the usual custom, he put in an awful roar at the amount of taxes until he looked over the receipt and found that the city treasurer had included of his own accord the item of $7.50 for tax on the little baby girl which now graces the Lynch home.  When Frank saw that, his face relaxed and the grin that followed showed that he appreciated the joke.  However, in all seriousness, he took the receipt home and showed it to his wife with the remark that he had been compelled to pay the tax on the baby.  While Mrs. Lynch was satisfied to pay the tax, for the baby is worth a whole lot more than that, yet she felt that they were being discriminated against for having such a fine baby, and she told a number of her lady friends of the circumstance, with the result that some of them voiced the sentiment that if there was to be such a high tax on babies they [article incomplete]
