Neis, Hubert (28 Nov 1858 - 28 Jan 1914)

Hubert Neis died at his home in the town of Weston Jan. 28, 1914.  His death came as a shock to his family and friends as he left his home in seemingly good health Tuesday noon to cut wood with the help of Mr. Barber.  While at work he was suddenly stricken with apoplexy.  Mr. Barber, with the help of friends, brought him home.  A doctor was called, but all efforts to save his life were of no avail.  After having received all the consolations that the holy Catholic religion can give, he breathed forth his soul to God.

Mr. Neis was born in Jefferson, Wis., Nov. 28, 1858.  He was married to Miss Anna Schwellenbach Nov. 7, 1882.  They resided in Jefferson until Nov. 14, 1904, when they came to Neillsville to live at their present home.  Deceased was a good Catholic, a kind husband and loving father who had a host of friends, as was fully shown in the last sad days of his life and death.  He leaves his sorrowing widow and six children, all of whom are living and were present at the funeral except Mrs. Albert Huber of Montana.  They are Melanie of Dubuque, Iowa, Albert of Lodi, Mrs. Frank Rock of Chippewa Falls, Mrs. Albert Huber of Poplar, Mont., Marcella and Cietus at home.  He also leaves three sisters, Mrs. Pete Hauer of Milwaukee, Mrs. Ferd Haas and Mrs. Carl Lamberti of Prairie du Sac, all of whom were present.  The funeral took place from St. Mary’s Church Saturday, Jan. 31, 1914.  Father Dorrenbach conducted the services and also officiated at the grave.  Out of town relatives were Leonard Neis, Adam Neis, Mr. and Mrs. John Zimmerman and Lina Neis of Jefferson, John, Carl and Alfred Haas, Mrs. Peter Schuld and Mr. and Mrs. John Haas of Loyal and Joseph and Leo Haas of Prairie du Sac.
