Amidon, Hannah L. #2 (16 Mar 1844 - 31 Jan 1914)
A telegram reached here Sunday afternoon with the report that Mrs. Hannah L. Amidon, mother of S.G. Amidon of this city and Albert Amidon of Rice Lake, had passed away at Neillsville that morning while visiting at the home of her son, Walter, there. The old lady had been failing for some time and death was expected, for doctors attending her had given out that she could not live much longer. She left Hayward for Neillsville about the first of December and had been visiting there up to the time of her death. Her loss will be acutely felt by her children and friends for her kindness of heart and gentle influence upon all around her. But she was prepared to meet her Maker and went to Him with a smile on her lips and a serenely peaceful soul.
Mrs. Amidon was born in Washington County on the 16th day of March, 1844, being at the age of 69 years, ten months and 16 days at the time of her death. Just previous to coming to Hayward to make her home, she lived in Neillsville, Wis., and in 1900 moved with her husband to this city where they resided on a farm about one mile east of here. Her husband died nearly five years ago, but Mrs. Amidon continued to make her home on the farm near the home of her son, Sam, who also has a place a short distance east of Hayward. For the last four months she suffered continually from asthma of the heart which ultimately caused her death.
She has two sisters living, one brother, four sons, and two daughters. Sisters are Mrs. Theresa Malfrey of Whitehall, Wis., and Mrs. A.D. Jones of Centralia, Wash., a brother named Geo. Anderson residing in Loyal, Wis., one son, Sam, who lives here at Hayward; Albert, who resides at Rice Lake, Walter of Neillsville and George of Black River Falls, Wis. The two daughters are Mrs. F.A. Copley of Wilhelmina, Ore., and Mrs. L.E. Parks of Millinor, N.D.
The funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at the Congregational Church with Rev. R. J. Barnes officiating and interment at Greenwood Cemetery. - Hayward Record
