Owen, Wisconsin Hospital (First Mass - 1962)
Members of the Knights of Columbus of Clark County attended the first evening Mass held at the Clark County Hospital at Owen last week. Attending were 150 members and their wives from Our Lady of Fatima Council, Loyal, Neillsville and Greenwood; and Our Queen of Peace Council of Thorp and Owen.
Through the joint efforts of both councils, mass is now said monthly at the home by Father Raphael OFM, Willard.
Facilities for religious services have been made available by members of both councils. An altar constructed by Jerry Pabisch of Owen and the confessional and lectern were built by Max Langfeldt of Loyal. Working closely on the project was Calvin Mills, superintendent.
Regular religious services are also conducted by other denominations in the area, and use of the altar and lectern are made available to them.
Immediately following the mass a joint meeting of both councils was held at Holy Rosary Church hall at Owen. Father Anthony of the Capuchian Monastery at Marathon discussed the "Know the Truth" tv program, sponsored by the Knights of Columbus of Wisconsin. The ladies enjoyed a social hour at the Woodland Hotel dining room.
