Russell Cook, 82, Marshfield, formerly of Loyal, died at his home on Tuesday, April 19, 2011. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., on Monday, April 25, at the Loyal United Methodist Church. Rev. Mike Herdt officiated. Burial followed in the Loyal Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jason Verhulst, Shawn Verhulst, Daniel Cook, Dillion Cook, Josh Cook, Britney Weyhmiller, Jeremy Schiller and Doug Bentzler.
Russell Elwin Cook was born on Oct. 24, 1928, in Loyal, the son of Elwin and Katy (nee Miles). He was raised on the family farm and received his education in the Loyal area. After completing his education, he worked the family farm and for the Soo Line Railroad for eight years. He served in The Wisconsin National Guard from March 14, 1949, until April 13, 1956. e married Loretta Mattheisen on May 14, 1955, at the Methodist Church, in Loyal. He took over the operation of his family farm in 1960. While on the farm, he also worked for Jack Bertz Logging. He farmed until 1976, at which time he sold the farm and moved his family into Loyal. After moving to Loyal, he continued operating his own logging operation, with his sons, until the mid-1980’s. He had many interests, but especially loved auctions, antiques, flea markets, playing cards, Packer football, going up north to the cabin, and deer hunting, where he never missed an opening day for 68 years.
He was a member of the Loyal United Methodist Church, where he previously served as treasurer and trustee, and had served on the Loyal Cemetery Board.
He will dearly be missed by his wife, Loretta, Marshfield; six children, Randy (Tami) Cook, Loyal, Karen (Arvin) Verhulst, Loyal, Diane (Ed) Schiller, Loyal, Lori (Keith) Weyhmiller, Loyal, Roger (Michelle) Cook, Greenwood, and Kevin (Dawn) Cook, Loyal; 16 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Wanda West, Sauk City.
