English, John Lyle (New Pastor - 7 JUN 1959)
The Rev. John Lyle English was introduced to the congregation of St. Katherine’s Episcopal Church as their new vicar on June 7, 1959 by the Right Rev. William W. Horstick, Bishop of Eau Claire.
Mr. English was born in Detroit, Mich. and received his early education there and in Croswell, Mich.
Following his graduation from high school in 1948, Mr. English enlisted in the Army. He served for three years.
After receiving his honorary discharge, Mr. English enrolled at Michigan State University, where he received his B.A. in 1955. He then worked in La Crosse, Wis. for a ear before entering Seabury Western Theological Seminary, Evansville, Ill. as a postulant from Christ Church, La Crosse.
Mr. English was graduated from Seabury Western on May 28, 1959, and was ordained to the Sacred Order of Deacons by the Right Rev. Charles L. Street, Suffragan Bishop of Chicago. The ordination took place in the seminary chapel of St. John the Divine on May 29.
The new vicar, who is in residence at the Vicarage, is married to the former Jeanette M. De. Clereq of Detroit. They have a four-month-old son, Timothy John.
