Hazen, Chester (28 JAN 1874 - 25 OCT 1959)

 

A heart attack suffered Sunday evening proved fatal to Chester Hazen, a resident of this city (Owen, Clark Co., Wis.) for the past 42 years.  At the time of his death at 11 p.m. he was a resident at the Havenet Nursing Home.  He had attained the age of 85 years and 9 months.

 

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at two o’clock from the First Congregational Church.  The parish pastor, Rev. Ralph Claybaugh officiated and burial was made at Riverside Cemetery.

 

Mesdames Pete Madsen, R.E. Gabriel and H.B. Mauel, Sr., were in charge of the floral arrangements, while John Bacon, H.B. Mauel, Sr., Pete Madsen, R.E. Gabriel, Ed Ruesch and Gust Braun served as pallbearers.

 

Chester Gilbert Hazen was born Jan. 28, 1874 in Eau Claire.  He came to this community in 1917 being an employee of the John S. Owen Lumber Co., and later with the E.W. Kidd and Post Companies until his retirement in 1949.

 

In 1900 he was united in marriage to Charlotte Chamberlain in a ceremony performed at Eau Claire.  She passed away in 1927 and in 1933 he was marriage to Charlotte Childs of Eau Claire.  She preceded him in death, passing away in February of this year.

 

Surviving him is a daughter, Mrs. Paul (Florence) Konik, Curtiss; two grandchildren, Sandra Konik, a student at Wis. State College at Eau Claire and Gary Konik of Barstow, Calif., a brother George of Eau Claire and a sister, Mrs. James Sukopp of Chippewa Falls.
