Biddle, Lola E. #2 (1939 - 29 NOV 1959)
A 20-year-old rural Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.) girl killed herself with a high powered rifle Sunday afternoon at the home of her parents.
Death of Lola Elaine Biddle is "without doubt a suicide," Clark County Coroner Robert Lulloff reported. He was called to the house with other authorities after her body was found by an eight-year-old brother in the bathroom.
Mr. and Mrs. James Biddle, her parents, said she had been despondent in recent weeks but that they did not know what might have been bothering her. She was left in care of three younger children Sunday afternoon while her parents and several others of the nine children attended church at Gilman. She was apparently in good spirits, washing dishes, when they left. Roger called neighbors who notified authorities after he found the body. A 38-55 caliber rifle lay beside the dead girl.
Miss Biddle was valedictorian of her graduating class two years ago and was presently employed at a bank in Thorp.
Also at the scene, a mile west and one mile and a half miles north of Thorp, were Clark County Sheriff Frank Dobes and Thorp Police Chief Ed Harycki.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 o’clock yesterday afternoon from the Thorp Funeral Home.
