Maki, Robert (26 JUL 1921 - 30 JAN 1960)
Relatives and friends of Robert Maki, 36, were shocked Saturday when they learned of his sudden death. A resident of Philadelphia, Pa., he was found dead in his hotel room in Chicago, Ill., where he was on a business trip. He was known to be suffering from a diabetic condition.
His remains were brought to Owen (Clark Co., Wis.) where funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon from Bethany Lutheran Church. The parish pastor, Rev. Karl Wilksman, officiated with burial being made at Riverside Cemetery where members of the Van Huizen-Fritz American Legion Post conducted military rites.
Serving as pallbearers were close friends and former classmates, Clark Nissen, Ralph Peterson, Tovio Kalio, Voitto Mutka, Voitto Rlihenen and Arvo Sormunen. In charge of floral displays were Mesdames Eva Buss and Elsie Schultz.
Robert Maki was born July 26, 1921 in Owen, where he attended the public schools, being graduated from high school with the class of 1939. Immediately after his graduate he entered the armed forces, serving from 1939 through 1945. He then attended the University of Wisconsin and Chicago, graduating with a degree in physics and he took a position with the Philas? Company, by whom he was employed at the time of his death.
He is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Ed (Vera) Maki, Pittsburgh, Calif., Mrs. J. (Edna) Torgensen, Fischer, Minn., and Mrs. Robert (Elizabeth) Kessel, Whitewater, and two brothers, George of Edgar and William of Owen. Both his mother and father preceded him in death.
