Durkee, "Grandma" (1826? - 9 OCT 1914)
"Grandma" Durkee died Friday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ed McVean, at the advanced age of eighty-eight years. Death came after a long illness and was due to old age. Mrs. Durkee came to this community (Spencer-transcriber) with her husband and children in the early seventies and resided on a farm five miles southwest of the village until a few years ago when they sold their home and went to live with their daughter. She is survived by Mr. Durkee, aged eighty-nine, two daughters, Mrs. Meacham and Mrs. Ed McVean, and three sons Charles, Frank and Will. All reside here except Will who is in Washington. The funeral was held from the house Saturday afternoon, Rev. J. Dix officiating. Internment was made in the Spencer cemetery. Thus another of Spencer's early settlers has crossed the "great divide".
