Schwanebeck, Wayne M. (15 JUN 1930 - 11 MAY 2011)
PITTSVILLE -- Wayne M. Schwanebeck, 80, of Pittsville, died
Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at his home.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 15, 2011, at St.
John's Ev. Lutheran Church, Pittsville, with the Rev. Tom Hahn
officiating. Burial will be in Sherwood Cemetery, town of Sherwood.
Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. Nephews will serve as
honorary pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at Buchanan
Funeral Home, Pittsville, and at the church on Sunday from noon
until time of service.
Wayne was born June 15, 1930, in the town of Sherwood to Charles
and Doris (Davis) Schwanebeck. He attended Dewhurst School and was
a 1948 graduate of Pittsville High School. He served in the U.S.
Army during the Korean War. He was united in marriage Nov. 6, 1954,
to Fern Dickson at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, Pittsville.
Wayne worked at Coca-Cola in Milwaukee, and then returned to the
family farm in the town of Sherwood. He also drove school bus for
31 years, worked at Consolidated Papers for five years, and was a
milk hauler. He also did seasonal work on the cranberry marsh.
Wayne and Fern moved to their home on Badger Avenue in 1960.
He served as town chairman for Sherwood for many years, currently
serving as supervisor for the town of Sherwood. He was an active
member and past commander of Palmer-Ritchie-Thomas Post 153
American Legion in Pittsville. He also was an active member and
past president of the Southern Clark County Sportsman's Club in
Granton; a member of St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church, Sherwood,
serving as chairman, trustee and was on the financial
committee.
He was a Red Cross donor and volunteer, helped organize the FFA
Alumni program in Pittsville, and was a volunteer with the USSA
(special sportsman's alliance).
Wayne enjoyed hunting, fishing, attending grandchildren's sporting
events and spending time with family and friends. He loved to have
coffee and play cards at the Hilltop and at the Sportsman's
Club.
He is survived by his wife, Fern Schwanebeck of Pittsville;
children, Vicki (Steve) Kreifels of Nebraska City, Neb., Deb
Martinson of Nekoosa and Ricky (Maria) Schwanebeck of Granton; six
grandchildren, Jennifer, Melinda, A.J., Derek, Sam and Ryan. He is
further survived by a brother, Ivan (Edna) Schwanebeck of
Pittsville; two sisters, Lois Hasz of Granton and Joyce (Herb)
Ziebart of Pittsville; and a brother-in-law, Ed Wilde of
Cedarburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Nona Wilde; and
a brother-in-law, Albert Hasz.
