Masonic services were conducted Monday afternoon at the Thorp Funeral Home for Joseph John Kulwiec, 61, of rural Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.), who died of a stroke March 25, 1960 in Victory Memorial Hospital at Stanley.  The Rev. Cecil Ward of Stanley officiated and burial was made in the East Thorp Cemetery.

The Order of Eastern Star conducted a brief service Sunday evening.

Mr. Kulwiec was born in Maripoll, on the Russian-Polish border, and came to America at an early age.  He attended grade school at Lublin, then moved to Sevens Point, where he continued his education, including teachers’ training.  He taught school for 40 years and was an insurance salesman for a number of years.

He married the former Maude Kronberg on June 20, 1923.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Thorp, the Odd Fellows at Withee, and the Order of Eastern Star and Modern Woodmen at Stanley.

Surviving are his wife; two brothers, Stanley and Walter of Chicago, Ill., and a sister, Mrs. Sophie Sternbeck of Sheboygan.
