Poppe, Edward (27 SEP 1885 - 16 APR 1960)
A requiem mass was said at 9:30 Wednesday morning at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Owen, for Edward Ernest Poppe. Father Aloysius Modic officiated with burial being made at Riverside Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Harold Hodnett, Laurence Scheuerman, John Lobotz, Louis McMitt, Henry Tisdale and Donald Poppe.
Death came to the deceased Saturday evening at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, where he was being treated. He had attained the age of 74 years, being born Sept. 27, 1885 in the Town of Longwood (Clark Co., Wis.).
A resident of this community all his life, Edward Poppe was a successful farmer, being active up until the time of his death. He was an ardent sportsman, finding great enjoyment in both hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, the former Mable Scheuerman, whom he married Oct. 3, 1916, in a ceremony performed at Neillsville. Other survivors are a son, Edward Bernard, who lives at home; a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Eleanor) Welsch, and three grandchildren of Memphis, Tenn.; one brother, George, and two sisters, Mrs. George (Louisa) Buker, Owen, and Mrs. Warren (Della) Poppe, Marble, Minn.
