Preparations are in full swing at the Owen-Withee High School for the Junior prom on Friday, May 20, 1960. The theme "Bali Hai" from the movie "South Pacific" will be beautifully arrayed in many decorations.
The orchestra will be set off by small palm trees. The dreamy music of Lynn Wynch will take the prom-goers to the enchanting land of the South Pacific.
This year, prom-goers will discover an attractive addition to the punch stand. A version of native girls will be serving punch. The punch is sure to be refreshing when it comes from an exquisite flower, the orchid.
Along the east wall of the gym will be silhouettes depicting actual life on a South Sea island. Bue lights will give them a moonlight effect.
Bali Hai is the story and song about a mysterious enchanting mountain island in the South Pacific. The queen, Sally Hardrath, will be crowned by King Jerry Prepeluh on a "bamboo" bridge directly in from the island. Behind the royal couple is a miniature replica of the mountain Bali Hai.
The queen is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harley Hardrath, route 1, Owen (Clark Co., Wis.), while the king is the son of John Prepeluh, also of route 1, Owen.
The midnight oil will be burning in the gym this final week as the juniors with their advisors, Mrs. Betty Decker and Mr. Walt Kroll, prepare the gym for "Bali Hai, 1960."
