Sorenson, Emil #2 (1 JUL 1890 - 31 AUG 1960)

Emil Anton Sorenson, son of Martin and Hannah (Bredeson) Sorenson, route 1, Owen (Clark Co., Wis.), pioneer residents of the Longwood area, passed away Wednesday morning, Aug. 31, 1960, at the Veterans Hospital in Minneapolis, Minn., at the age of 70 years and 2 months, after a lingering illness of diabetes and other complications.

Rev. Myhrwold, Greenwood, officiated at the final rites with burial being made in Emmanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery at Longwood, with military rites being conducted by the Van Huizen-Fritz American Legion Post 123 at Owen.

Serving as pallbearers were John Zawadski, Arthur Himes, James Peterson, William Kangas, Earl Axel and Peter Larson.  In charge of the floral offerings were Mesdames John Zawadski, James Peterson, Arthur Himes, Earl Alex, Viano Talso, Harriet Carrier and Miss Bonnie Peterson.

During the service Mrs. Harriet Carrier sang "In the Garden" and "Abide With Me," accompanied by her sister, Mrs. Lester Hanson at the organ.

Emil was born July 1, 1890 in the Town of Longwood where he was baptized and confirmed in the Emmanuel Lutheran Church.  In his early years he worked in the logging camps of the John S. Owen Lumber Co. near Owen, Gilman and Ladysmith areas, in addition to being an employee in the box factory at Bright (south of Owen 4 miles), then operated by the late H.A. Bright in the Town of Green Grove.  After serving in World War I he went into farming, settling on the homestead farm in the Town of Longwood.

In 1921 he was married to Martha Twait, with three children being born to the union.

His passing is mourned by his widow, two sons, Emery and Harold, both of Owen, and a daughter, Mrs. Ray (Gladys) Kobylarczyk, and seven grandchildren, Susan, Ronald, Roger and Jerold Kobylarczyk, Richard, Donna and Janice Sorenson, and a step-child, Harvey Churkey.  A brother, Olaf, of Milwaukee, and a sister, Mrs. Nora Peterson of California preceded him in death, as did an infant son, his parents, three brothers and a sister.
