Simons, Henry (1854 - 22 MAR 1941)

Henry Simons, brother of Miss Mary Simons, and uncle of A.F. Simons, who were at his bedside when he passed away, died about fifteen hours after they arrived at Friend, where they had gone to visit him.  The following obituary appeared in the Friend (Nebraska) Sentinel:

"Henry Simons was born in Waukesha, Co., Wis. in 1854.  He made his home with his parents until the year 1879, when he came to Nebraska.  Then he bought eighty acres of land in Turkey Creek precinct, Saline Co.  In the year 1890 he sold the farm in Turkey Creek precinct and bought eighty acres one-half mile north of Friend, where he made his home and lived along until December 1935, when he came to live in the home of Mrs. Sarahet Billings, he being unable to care for himself.

"After three weeks of serious illness, he passed away on March 22, 1941, at the age of 86 years, 9 months and 22 days, leaving to mourn his departure, three sisters, three nephews and four nieces, and many friends.

"Funeral services were conducted from the Moore Funeral Home, Tuesday afternoon, with the Rev. Peter Friesen officiating.  Mrs. Luella Roehl sang "Face to Face," and Miss Erma Hamilton and Mrs. Lester Cogswell sang "The Old Rugged Cross."  Burial was in the Andrew Cemetery."

Mr. Simons frequent visited at the home of his brother, the late F.J. Simons, and was well known to quite a number of our folks.

Miss Simons and her nephew, remained for the funeral, and returned home (Humbird, Clark Co., Wis.) last Thursday.
