DIED
Mrs. Jennie Chapman, wife of Dudley Chapman, died at her residence in this village (Spencer, Wis.) about 12 o'clock Saturday night last of cerebro [sic] spinal meningitis, aged 23 years. The circumstances connected with Mrs. Chapman's decease make the case peculiarly sad. They started from their home, in the state of New York, just in time to be caught in the great snow blockade, and were ten days on the journey. The family had just got comfortably settled in a part of Mr. Lowe's house, when an infant claimed a place in the family circle. This event occurred Tuesday morning and all went well for about twenty four hours when symptoms of the terrible malady that so often proves fatal began to be developed and increased in spite of medical skill until the young life went out leaving a husband and two children in the gloom of a motherless home. Her mind was effected by the disease most of the time; but a short time before she expired reason returned and she passed away rejoicing in the prospect of a better inheritance where pain and sorrow are forever unknown. A dispatch was forwarded to the parents in New York informing them of her dangerous illness and they started as soon as possible to come here and are expected to-day. Arrangements for the funeral are not known at this writing. Mr. Chapman has the sympathy of the entire community in his bereavement.
