Schwanebeck, Wayne M. (15 June 1930 - 11 May 2011) With Flag

 

Wayne M. Schwanebeck, 80, of Pittsville, died Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at his home.  Wayne was born June 15, 1930, in the Town of Sherwood to Charles and Doris (Davis) Schwanebeck.  He was educated at Dewhurst School and graduated from Pittsville High School Class of 1948.

 

Wayne served in the U. S. Army from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean Conflict.  He was then employed at Coca Cola in Milwaukee.  Wayne married Fern Dickson Nov. 6, 1954, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Pittsville.  They returned to the family dairy farm in the town of Sherwood.  In addition to farming, Wayne drove school bus for 31 years, was a milk hauler, worked on the cranberry marsh in City Point and also worked for five years at Consolidated Paper.  In 1960 Fern and Wayne moved to their home on Badger Avenue.

 

Wayne served as town chairman for Sherwood for many years and was currently serving as supervisor.  He was an active member and past commander for many years of American Legion Post # 153, Pittsville.  He was an active member and past president of the Southern Clark County Sportsman’s Club of Granton.

 

Wayne was an active and faithful member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sherwood, serving as chairman, trustee and on the Financial Committee. Wayne was a Red Cross blood donor and volunteer worker. He helped to organize the FFA Alumni program in Pittsville and was a volunteer with the USSA - Special Sportsman’s Alliance.

 

Wayne enjoyed hunting and fishing, attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and spending time with family and friends. He loved to have coffee and play cards at the Hilltop and at the Sportsman’s Club in Granton.

 

Wayne is survived by his wife, Fern Schwanebeck of Pittsville; three children, Vicki (Steve) Kreifels, Nebraska City, NE, Deb Martinson, Nekoosa and Ricky (Maria) Schwanebeck of Granton; six grandchildren, Jennifer, Melinda, A. J., Derek, Sam and Ryan; one brother, Ivan (Edna) Schwanebeck, Pittsville; two sisters, Lois Hasz, Granton, and Joyce (Herb) Ziebart of Pittsville; and one brother-in-law, Ed Wilde, Cedarburg.

 

Wayne was preceded in death by one son, John; one sister, Nona Wilde and one brother-in-law, Albert Hasz.

 

Funeral services were held Sunday, May 15, at 1 p.m. at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Pittsville with Rev. Tom Hahn officiating.  Mary Schwanebeck served as organist for congregational singing.  Military rites were conducted by Palmer-Ritchie-Thomas Post #153 American Legion of Pittsville.

 

Grandchildren served as pallbearers and nephews were honorary pallbearers.  Interment will be at a later date in the Sherwood Cemetery.

 

Buchanan Funeral Home of Pittsville assisted the family with arrangements.
