Schaffer, Mark (? - 17 March 1962)
Young Schaffer, on his way home from catechism class in Colby last Saturday morning, was killed instantly when he was thrown from a car driven by his sister, and was pinned beneath it.
Young Schaffer’s death resulted from an accident on a town road five miles west of Colby in which one of his sister’s three children also was injured. She was Sheri Hansen, 2, who suffered a fractured leg.
Mrs. Hansen told authorities she lost control on the rutted town road as she was returning home with Mark, Sheri, and Sheri’s brother and sister, Robert, Jr., six months, and Cindy, 3. Mark lived with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Schaffer, on Rt. 2, Colby. The Hansens live in Colby. The accident took place about a mile from the Schaffer farm.
The death was the fourth highway fatality in Clark County this year.
