Smith, Geraldine (25 APR 1942)

On Saturday April 25, 1942, at 10:00 o’clock a.m., at the parsonage of Fairview Church, Miss Geraldine Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Smith of Humbird (Clark Co., Wis.), became the bride of Mr. Virgil Denk, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Denk of Greenwood.  The Rev. Father Ausmen officiated, the young people exchanging their vows in a double ring ceremony.

The bride wore a heavy satin and rose point lace empress style dress.  Her fingertip veil was held in place by a coronet of satin and orange blossoms.  Her only jewelry was a god locket, a gift from the bridegroom.  Her flowers were an arm bouquet of pink and white carnations and sweet peas.

The bridegroom and his attendants, Donald Denk of Milwaukee, brother of the bridegroom, and Robert Smith, brother of the bride, wore dark suits with carnations in their coat lapels.

The maid of honor, Miss Marion Denk of Chicago, a sister of the bridegroom, was dressed in pink chiffon.  The bridesmaid, Miss Marjorie Thorsen of Milwaukee, wore blue organdy.  Each wore a gold locket given by the bride, and a shoulder corsage of carnations and sweet peas.

Little Shelby Jean Smith, sister of the bride, was flower girl.  She was dressed in a long white taffeta gown fashioned with short puffed sleeves, shirred neckline and tiered skirt.  She carried a small bouquet of pink sweet peas.

Yellow and white combinations were carried out at the wedding dinner served at the home of the bride’s parents to the immediate relatives, at which about forty were present.  A beautiful three-tiered wedding cake formed the centerpiece of the bridal table.  Acting as waitresses were the Misses Velva Escher, Betty Dignin and Mrs. Jerome Dignin.

A 6:00 o’clock reception was also held at the bride’s home to immediate relatives, and later all attended the wedding dance at the Silver Dome.

Mrs. Denk is teacher at the Lone pine School, and Mr. Denk is a carpenter at Marshfield, were the couple will reside after May 22nd.

Out of town guests included Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Denk, Bernard, Dorothy, Ronald, Jack and Buddy, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Denk and Romain, Greenwood; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Mallwave, Kohler; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Toschel, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Krall, Jenny and Beatrice, John Gintner, Valders; Mrs. Cyril Marlborough, Cato; Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Smith, Argyle; Mrs. Thor Repsholdt, Oshkosh; Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Denk, Sharon and Lavonne, Rozellville; Miss Marion Denk, Chicago; Donald Denk and Miss Marjorie Thorsen, Milwaukee.

Pre-nuptial events were a community surprise coin shower sponsored by Mrs. Earl Langworthy on April 18th, at the bride’s parents home, and a miscellaneous shower given by Mrs. George Walker at her home.
