National Guard Company (Transfers - 1962)
Capt. Heron (Pink) Van Gorden, commanding the Neillsville National Guard Company now in federal service at Fort Lewis, Wash., has been transferred to a new assignment as commanding officer of Eau Claire’s headquarters company, 1st battle group.
The transfer, which saw Capt. James M. King of New Richmond replacing Van Gorden, was carried out under a "rotation of command" in which all company commanders and first sergeants within the 1st battle group of the 128th Infantry division have been reassigned. Also reassigned was Sgt. James Hauge of Neillsville, first sergeant of Neillsville’s Company E.
The information office of the 32nd Division at Fort Lewis advised The Clark County Press that "it was not immediately determined whether rotated personnel would return to their former units."
The
information office quoted Capt. Van Gorden as "optimistic about the
change," and that it would give him
"valuable insight into the training of men from another locality
previously under another command."
The rotation plan was put into effect last week. It is being used in other battle groups of the 32nd Division, as well as in regular army forces.
