Carter, Henry N. (11 OCT 1875 - 20 JUL 1942)

Harry Nathan Carter died at his home, 2004 NE 33rd Ave., Portland, Ore., Monday, July 20th, 1942, after being confined to his bed for five months, during the most of which time he suffered greatly.  This is the report received from his daughter, Mrs. Maryann C. Durham.  Two years ago he underwent a very serious operation, from which he never regained full health.

Services were held at the colonial Mortuary Chapel Thursday of last week, two former Humbirdites being some of the pallbearers, Sylvester Wilson and Nathan Rice.  Committal was in Portland mausoleum where the remains of his mother repose.

Mr. Carter was born in Humbird (Clark Co., Wis.) Oct. 11, 1875.  After his graduation from the local high school, he attended the state university, graduating in 1899, and then taught in our high school for a few years.  In 1908 he married Ida A. Shaw of Eau Claire, and four years later moved to Portland, Ore.  For the last fifteen years he had been with the state board of engineering examiners.

Besides his widow, he is survived by his two daughters, Ruth C. Oswald, Berkeley, Calif., and Maryann C. Durham, Portland; his sister, Mrs. George F. Witter, Berkeley; and his brother, Archy B. Carter, Portland.
