Koeberl, Joseph G. (10 APR 1930 - 30 MAY 2011)

 

Joseph G. Koeberl, 81, of Neillsville, lost his battle with cancer Monday, May 30, 2011, at his home.

Joseph was born April 10, 1930, in Marshfield to Henry and Lena (Stark) Koeberl. Joe was the 10th of 12 children. He was baptized and received his education at St. John's Catholic Church in Marshfield where his father then was a janitor.

At the age of 17, he joined the U.S. Air Force, serving for three years.

He was united in marriage in 1950 to Bonita M. Washburn at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Milwaukee. They had five children, Gregory P., Cynthia Neist, Paul J., Doreen A. Gatzow and Kevin.

Joe retired after 21 years with Miller Brewing Company, where he earned a Crystal Award for hours of work in perfecting the shelf life of Miller Draft Beer.

He was a member of Local 9 Brewery Union, a member of the Marshfield Eagles Club and the 1897 Clark County Jail Museum.

He is survived by his wife, Bonita, of Neillsville; four children; two sisters, Valerie Fahey and Cecila Richmeier; a brother, Raymond; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Gregory; four sisters, Marie Specht, Rita Logan, Vernica Brown and Margaret Thompson; and four brothers, Henry, Sylvester, Vincent and George.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 6, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Burial of cremains will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery with military rites conducted by Mueller-Hintz Post 1866 VFW of Marshfield.

The family will greet friends Monday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.

Buchanan Funeral Home of Neillsville is assisting the family with arrangements.
