Thorson, Alvin (15 January 1874 - 31 March 1962)

 

Alvin Thorson, one of Withee’s oldest and most highly-respected residents, died at Methodist Hospital in Minneapolis, March 31.

 

He was brought to Owen and the funeral was held from the Congregational Church at 2:00 p.m. April 3, with the Rev. Ralph Claybaugh officiating.  Burial was made in Riverside Cemetery.

 

His six sons, Roy, Harry, Orville, Alvin, Edward and Gordon were the pallbearers.

 

Born in Winnebago County January 15, 1874, he came to Clark County and settled on a farm three miles west of Withee in 1903.

 

He was married in 1894 to Mattie Erickson in Neenah.  They farmed until 1934, when they moved into Withee.  He operated a dairy here until 1942.  He was a member of Longwood Norwegian Church.

 

His wife died about five years ago and he had lived with his sons since.

 

Besides his sons he leaves 22 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, and four sisters.
