Escher, Velva (MAR 1943)

Green foliage, white blossoms and candlelight provided the background for the double ring ceremony performed by the Rev. Bentley Sloane in the chapel of the First Methodist Church in Shreveport, La., uniting in marriage Miss Velva Escher of Humbird (Clark Co., Wis.), and Pfc. Arthur R. Putman of the United States Army.

The bride wore a fashioned gown of heavy white slipper satin trimmed with rose point lace and small self-covered buttons.  The dress had a fitted lace bodice, slender over the hips, but extremely full at the skirt.  The bishop sleeves ended in tight little points just below the wrist.  Over her gown fell a three-quarter length veil of tulle crowned with a tiara of seed pearls and ending with two wide bands of lace.  Her only jewelry was a set of pearl ear clips, a gift of the groom.  She carried a large bouquet of pink and white roses.

They were attended by Christine M. Loyd and Mr. V.H. Thomason.  Following the ceremony the couple left for a short trip into Texas.  The groom is stationed at North Camp Polk, La., in the medical detachment.  (Taken from The Shreveport Times)

Both of these young poepl are well known in this village and have a host of friends who extend congratulations and best wishes.  The groom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Putman, and the bride the daughter of Mrs. E.E. Dickie of Fairchild.  Both were members of the graduating class of 1939 of the local high school.
