Colburn, Irving T. (20 MAR 1919 - 11 MAY 1943)
A telephone message from Chicago Tuesday to the Theiler family bore the sad tidings that Mrs. Theiler’s grandson, Irving Theiler Colburn, was killed in action in North Africa on May 11th, 1943. The message from the department to his parents in Chicago, gave no details.
Irving was the only child of Cullen and Sophia (Theiler) Colburn of Chicago; and a grandson of Mr. and Mrs. C.A. Colburn. He was 24 years of age on March 20. Three years ago he enlisted in the Air Force and was a member of the Sqdn. 20 at Langley Field, Va., where he received honors as a bombardier. He was among the first of the government forces to arrive in the North African area, having gone to Iceland with the troops, where he was for some time, and was then transferred to England for about a year before going to the front.
Sympathies are extended by all friends of the family in their sorrow.
