Davis, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon (61st - 20 May1962)

 

Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Davis, who were married in the Congregational parsonage May 20, 1901, by the Rev. George W. Longenecker, will observe their 61st wedding anniversary Sunday at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Norman Freedlund, in Sherwood.

 

Mr. Davis was born July 16, 1878, in the Town of York, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Whiston W. Davis. Mrs. Davis, the former Villa Brown, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Brown, was born March 28, 1881, in Waushara County, where she attended school.  In 1899, she came with her parents to Clark County, locating on an 80-acre tract of land in the Town of Fremont, four miles northwest of Chili.

 

After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Davis made their home with his parents, where they remained until 1944, when they moved to Chili.

 

Seven children were born to their marriage: Lorraine, who died in infancy; Claire, who died a year ago; Mrs. Otto (Flossie) Schmidtke of York Center; Mrs. Charles (Doris) Schwanebeck of Sherwood; Mrs. Richard (Ione) Miller of Rockford, Ill.; Mrs. Norman (Donna) Freedlund of Sherwood.

 

There are 24 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

 

Relatives expected Sunday at the Norman Freedlund home to observe the anniversary include: Mr. and Mrs. Otto Schmidtke of York Center; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Schwanebeck and family of Sherwood; and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Hasz and family of the Town of Lynn.
