Creviston, Francis A. "Frank" #2 (2 MAR 1853 - 21 DEC 1943)

Death called another from the ranks of the olds settlers when Francis A. Creviston passed quietly away about 8:00 o’clock Tuesday forenoon, Dec. 21, 1943, at the home of his son James, in Fairchild.  He attained the advanced age of 90 years, 9 months and 19 days.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in this village Friday afternoon, Dec. 24^th, the Rev. Frederick J. Smith of the Augusta and Fairchild churches, conducting the burial rites.  The pastor used as the subject of his sermon, "Sunshine and Shadows."  His text was John 16:16, "A little while and ye shall not see me, and again, a little while and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father."

Mrs. W.E. Waters and Mrs. Walter Smith rendered the song service, "In the Garden," The Old Rugged Cross," and "Rock of Ages."  Miss Simons was accompanist.  Interment was in Mentor Cemetery.  A.E. Fradenburg, M. Kretschmer, H.E. Laffe, W.E. Waters, John Michael, and E.T. hale were pallbearers.

Francis A. Creviston, Frank as he was known to all old friends and neighbors, was born in Indiana on March 2, 1853.  He was one of a family of six children.  His early life was spent in Indiana, coming to Wisconsin when a youth, and locating near Springville in Vernon County.  It was there, on July 5, 1874, he was married to Miss Sarah Ann Gaylord, a union destined to last more than sixty-five years.

To them were born three sons, Roy A. of Eau Claire, Charles H. of Camptonville, Calif., and James F. of Fairchild.

The first years of their married life was spent at Springville, later moving to a farm near Mather, and in 1883 came to this vicinity (Humbird, Clark Co., Wis.), locating at Nettleton’s Corners.  Farming was his principal occupation until 1933, when advancing age caused them to leave the farm and move into this village.

A great sorrow came to Mr. Creviston on Feb. 25, 1940, when his beloved wife and helpmate of nearly sixty-six years passed to her Eternal Home, after a brief illness.  He then went to Fairchild to live with his son.

He is survived by his three sons, eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren; and three sisters: Mrs. Lenora Luther, Springville, Mrs. Addie Gaylord, British Columbia, and Mrs. Lillie Windhaus, La Crosse.

Among the relatives from away attending the funeral service were Mr. and Mrs. R.A. Creviston, Mrs. Eileen Oatman, Mrs. Sadie Creviston, Mrs. Miles Creviston, Mr. and Mrs. Milton Creviston, Mr. and Mrs. Orville Creviston, Eau Claire; Mr. and Mrs. J.F. Creviston, Mr. and Mrs. Neil Brandstedter, Mr. and Mrs. LaVerne Creviston, Mrs. Mayo Yule, Fairchild, and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Spencer, St. Paul.
