Hein, W.F. (Retirement - 8 JAN 1944)

In 1923, I was granted a 9 month leave of absence, as my wife wasn’t well and was advised by the doctor to go west. We spent that year in California, and came back in May and took over the route again.
The first few years I didn’t have concrete or gravel roads. Nature took care of the roads, giving us plenty of mud and plenty of snow drifts up to the top of the fences. Some days we were unable to follow the roads, so had to cut wire fences and go through the fields wherever we could, many time get…..(the article continued on another page that I did not get a copy of)
