Fitzmaurice, June (27 JUN 1944)
St. Joseph’s Catholic Church at Fairview was the scene of a beautiful wedding at 9:00 o’clock, on Tuesday morning, June 27th, 1944, of Miss June Fitzmaurice, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis S. Fitzmaurice of Humbird (Clark Co., Wis.), and Mr. George Michels, son of Mrs. Emma Michels of Alma Center. Rev. R.J. Geissler officiated at the double ring ceremony.
The bride was given in marriage by her father. She was dressed in a floor length white satin wedding gown, with a lace edged fingertip veil, and carried a white prayer book. She wore a beautiful strand of pearls, a gift from the groom.
Miss Clara Gilles of Waunakee, a cousin of the groom, was bridesmaid, and wore a pink chiffon floor length dress. Her bouquet was made up of orange blossoms and pink roses. She wore a strand of pearls, a gift to her from the bride and groom.
The groom and his attendant, Willard Putman, cousin of the bride, were attired in navy blue suits and wore pink boutonnieres.
The groom’s little nephews, Allen Putman, dress in a navy blue suit, was ring bearer, and Carolyn Fitzmaurice, cousin of the bride, wearing a white satin dress, was flower girl. She carried a pink and white crocheted basket of orange blossoms and pink roses.
A reception was held at the bride’s parents’ home for immediate relatives. The table was decorated in pink and white and a beautiful pink and white wedding cake was at the center. A wedding dance was held in the evening at the Inwood Ballroom at Hatfield.
The bride is a graduate of the local high school with the class of ’41, and was recently employed in Eau Claire. The groom is one of the leading young farmers residing near Alma Center, and after a short honeymoon trip they are now at home on his mother’s farm.
Out of town guests at the wedding were: Mr. and Mrs. Henry Becker, La Crosse; Mrs. Louise Gilles, Alma Center; Miss Ciara Gilles, Waunakee; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. O’Leary, Neillsville; Miss Rose Lastofka, Minneapolis; Mr. R.W. Putman, Windom, Mont.
